Popshop – Salon Bizarre spotted in Reykjavík

What a surprise in the far North!

During our visit to Lucky Records – one of Reykjavík’s most iconic record stores and a true temple for vinyl lovers – we suddenly discovered Popshop – Salon Bizarre sitting right there in the shelves.

Among thousands of records, from Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada to Fugazi, Sigur Rós, and the vibrant Icelandic electronic scene, our album was quietly shining back at us.

The only Swiss record in sight – surrounded by international indie greats, electronic legends, and musical classics spanning from Pet Shop Boys to Jazz, Pop, and Abstract Sounds.

Released on Raygun/Indulge Records, the respected label run by Oliver Kapp, the album quickly found its place in Europe’s electronic underground. It reached No. 1 in De:Bug Magazine, earned strong support from Groove Magazine, and was picked up by radio DJs and club selectors across the continent.

Musically, Salon Bizarre blends warm analog synths, melodic melancholy, playful electronica, post-Detroit influences, and a distinctly European electro-clash touch — moving between electro, Detroit, indie, minimal, and leftfield experimentation. A quietly influential record that travelled far, appearing in unexpected DJ sets and resonating with listeners who loved its mix of depth and simplicity.

To spot this album — more than 20 years later — in a legendary record store in Reykjavík felt like a small but beautiful miracle. A reminder that music keeps moving: crossing borders, slipping into crates, finding new ears, and writing new stories along the way.
